Description
Pookaytha Veru  known scientifically as Pandanus odoriferissimus (or Pandanus fascicularis) and commonly referred to as Screw Pine Root or Ketaki Root, is a prominent botanical ingredient in traditional South Indian medicine and Ayurvedic practices. Botanically derived from the thick, fibrous prop roots of the fragrant screw pine tree, these segments are characterized by their dense, cylindrical shape, light brown outer bark, and distinctive exposed inner fibers. In Ayurvedic pharmacology (Dravyaguna), the root is valued for its Tikta (bitter) and Madhura (sweet) taste, Laghu (light) digestive quality, and Sheeta (cooling) potency. These energetic qualities make it exceptionally effective at pacifying elevated Pitta (internal body heat) and balancing Kapha doshas.
